This gene encodes a member of the poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase superfamily. Studies of the mouse ortholog have shown that the encoded protein catalyzes histone poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation and may be involved in T-cell function. Catalytic activity:NAD(+) + (ADP-D-ribosyl)(n)-acceptor = nicotinamide + (ADP-D-ribosyl)(n+1)-acceptor.,Function:Poly [ADP-ribose] polymerase using NAD(+) as a substrate to transfer ADP-ribose onto glutamic acid residues of a protein acceptor; repeated rounds of ADP-ribosylation leads to the formation of poly(ADPribose) chains on the protein, thereby altering the function of the target protein.
